Anti-Social Media

Many of you may know that this last year has been a bit of an uphill fight for me. My husband being diagnosed of Stage 4 cancer followed by a severe stroke, caused me to give up writing as I am too busy caring for him.

Some of  you may not know as I believe Social Media is for fun, not misery or name-calling and I have been absent from Facebook for a while.

So, having got him as settled as he is going to be for a while (like until death) I called up  my humour and went back. That was a good idea, wasn’t it? A person who does not know me accused me of being totally free of “live and let live” which is pretty hilarious if you actually DO know me.

I think we should re-name it as in the title as I really don’t need someone picking up on one comment and deciding they know my entire character from it. Those of you who do know me will be aware that I am so “live and let live” that I virtually lie down and invite people to walk over me.

So I don’t like cyclists using the pavement? That’s because it is against the law and dangerous to pedestrians. This makes me some kind of ogre????

I think it may be time for me to form a reasonable social media group for my friends who know me and don’t hurl insults from an unimaginable distance.

Pissed off? Quite right I am. The unfortunate friend on whose page this took place said it was like running a kindergarten – quite so, my love. That is why I am going to open my own school which will accept only those passing the politeness and civility test

Wait for your invitation……………………….. I am being fierce!

Not so nice me!

  1. Good for you Ailsa.I think what passes as politeness and civility these days still comes from our age group as anyone younger that us seems to find anything acceptable. Manners are the exception rather than the norm. Time we had another look at what we teach in schools and raise standards from there if in the home can’t manage.
    xxx Massive Hugs xxx

  2. I’m afraid the media woodwork is full of worms and maggots, Ailsa, that’s why I only upload posts from my blog and rarely exchange comments on FB, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, or anywhere else outside my own blog 😎

  3. I had a horrible experience one Twitter the other week that left me in a dire place. People who don’t know you can misinterpret and become horrific on social media at the drop of a hat…
    Love you xxx

  4. Having come off Facebook some time ago (almost a year I think) for exactly these reasons, I have totally missed your news (and have now signed up to your site to rectify this), and am sorry that this is now your situation (being a full time carer). And petty people on social media who don’t have a clue should just bog off. I know you better than that. He’s so lucky to have you there caring for him is all I can say.

    Big hugs Otter.
    M xx

  5. bless you all and many thanks Maybe my own fault if I don’t tell anyone = perhaps I SHOULD start listing my miseries hour by hour instead of trying to keep quiet unless I HAVE something funny to say xxxx

  6. Remember in the 1980s how if a country had the word ‘democratic’ in its title it was guaranteed to be a dictatorship? So it is that in the twenty teens social media is, a lot of the time, crushingly anti social. I hate it but there are folks I know who only reply to facebook so it’s the only way I can keep in touch with them. You have my sympathies social media is full of bell ends who lack the imagination to understand tone, nuance or … pretty much anything.

    Their loss, the miserable gits.

    Take care you.

  7. I totally agree with everyone here. Why have manners, and thought for others gone? When I was growing up, we were taught at school to go in single file if adults were approaching on the footpath so they didn’t have to, or have to step into the road.
Now, it’s we older people who still have to go into single file for the youn ones walking in a gang and filling up the pavement. Not fair!🙁
So sorry to hear of your husband’s illness. My thoughts are with you.

  8. Thank you all – there are people on FB and Twitter with whom I don’t want to lose touch so I have cleaned out the rubbish and am very grateful to everyone who rushed in to hold me upright yesterday xoxoxxoox

  9. People are get get increasingly rude and judgmental now that they can hide behind a screen and keyboard. I’m so sorry about your husband. I look forward to God’s Kingdom when all sickness, sorrow, pain and death will be a thing of the past and we’ll be able to enjoy life with our loved ones in Paradise (Revelation 21:4; John 5:28,29; Like 23:43). Until those promises are realized, I pray you gain the strength to continue to endure.

  10. Bullying happens so much on anonymous messaging apps. I have been bullied for several years now and it happens mostly on social media. People take advantage of anonymous messaging apps and it happens to so many people. There have been so many suicides because of apps like them. Could you guys sign my petition (and share where possible) to get apps like Sarahah and other anonymous messaging apps banned. They do more harm than good. Here is the petition link:
