Spare an orang-utan, Guv?

I’m writing this to ask you to do one thing for me. Please CHECK before you buy your Easter Eggs. Make sure they don’t contain palm oil.

Why? Because adding palm oil to chocolate is a cheapskate way to up the profits for the manufacturer and adds nothing to the quality or taste. What it does do is threaten the habitat of orang-utans. Their forests are chopped down to make way for palm-oil production. The apes themselves are slaughtered, burnt or captured. I won’t go into grisly details or post horrible photos but, please…give them a break.

Here are some links to places where you can check palm-oil free products.

There are masses of ethical shopping ideas on here.

This article in the Guardian is great for checking what ones are “goodies”.

If you get into this for Easter, why not keep it going through the year? Just look at the packaging or get into the habit of buying stuff that you KNOW is palm-oil free.

It isn’t for me, it’s for this guy and his family, because if we don’t act soon, they won’t exist any more. Thank you so much.

  1. Plus–Palm oil isn’t good for us humans! And chocolate is only worth it if it’s good, and good chocolate doesn’t contain palm oil.

    1. Absolutely so, Rebecca. There was a time the EEC wanted to call British chocolate “Vegolate” because it was more vegetable oil than cocoa butter! I’d rather pay that bit extra and have it less often. Thanks so much for commenting.

  2. Wow! Thanks everyone so much for your support. Please do share, re-blog and spread the word. Those of us who care need to try to shift opinion slightly with the others xxxxx
